A fish supper on Lamma is always great, mainly because after the boat ride out there you can't help but feel a million miles away from the skyscrapers of Central. To be honest, until my visit to Fu Kee, the ambience and general experience had never quite been matched by the quality of the food (think excessively greasy with a heavy emphasis on deep-frying). The actual restaurant is really basic with its plastic chairs and bright strip lighting but the fish is so fresh and tasty.
We stuck to the "chef's recommendations" choosing dishes such as crab in blackbean sauce (excellent although the plastic bibs they give you with chili crab in Singapore would not have gone amiss!) and scallops with broccoli. The steamed prawns arrived oozing chopped garlic and the whole Garupa with spring onions was cooked to perfection. The Fu Kee probably wouldn't cookery awards but it provides great simple food in a chilled seaside setting - perfect for any stressed out HK island dweller!
